Goldfinch by Cathy McIntire

Goldfinch Oil on Canvas Sold

The Goldfinch is such a gorgeous bird. Sometimes you can see that they know it, too. These beautifully colored finches visit my house from late winter to early spring and I try to get as many photos that I can.
One of the most striking characteristics of these birds, as shared by other finches, is the way they fly through the air. They dip and rise, dip and rise their way to their destination, usually a tree on the other side of our property.
Fun to watch, "funner" to paint.

"Young Goldfinch" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on archival board, 7" x 5", $125.-
One of the juvenile Goldfinches that are visiting our yard with their parents to feast on the sunflowers. I love to watch the fun as the little Goldfinches learn to balance on the flowers and feed themselves. I am fascinated with the delicate colors of their plumage, sometimes having to guess if they are male or female.
