Hens and chicks are a favorite in my garden. I love they way they group and readily multiply as they spill over rocks and create a wonderful ground cover. Here I played with variation in mixing greens. It was interesting to see how many shades of green were in such a small section. I magnified the drawing to give it impact and stand out. Such small things are often overlooked.

Botanical Fine Art Painting, "STRIPED PAJAMAS" The Art of Nature, Fine Art by Mindy Lighthipe

This orchid is a Paphiopedilum, often called the Venus slipper. It is a genus of the Lady slipper orchid and has the most unusual waxy flowers. Many orchids are found high in the tree canopy but the Paphiopedilum is a terrestrial orchid is found on the forest floor. This orchid is the Paph.rothschildianum.

Birds bring a lot of enjoyment to human beings! It is exciting to see them at the bird feeder in my garden! In the southern portion of the United States we often see the Robin. A chubby little Robin outside my art studio is the inspiration for my wildlife oil painting on canvas titled "The Perfect Perch". The vertical orientation of the canvas in "The Perfect Perch" gives you a feeling of being outdoors,looking up into the trees at the precious bird!

My choice of wildlife to paint is birds! We southerners enjoy a variety of winged friends at the bird feeders in our gardens ! The south has such a variety of beautiful birds to bring enjoyment to our lives!  Winged Friends" , a wildlife oil painting on canvas is inspired by my love of these sweet little creatures!
